Cleveland Metroparks Zoo Sees Strong Attendance in 2009
Attendance at Cleveland Metroparks Zoo remained strong in 2009 with nearly 1.2 million visitors.
A final tally showed 1,195,280 people came through the Zoo gates in 2009, surpassing the projected attendance of 1.15 million.
The busiest day of the year was Monday, July 6, with 21,732 visitors. Monday, July 20, came in a close second at 21,576. (Zoo admission is free on Mondays for residents of Cuyahoga County and Hinckley Township.)
The 2009 attendance marks the 17th straight year attendance has topped 1 million. The prior year, 2008, total attendance was 1,208,261.
"We're very grateful that people continue to see the value in their Zoo," said Zoo Director Steve Taylor. "Whether it's winter or summer, there's always plenty to see and do at the Zoo. And it's always affordable."
The Zoo's summertime attraction DINOSAURS! drew a record 444,820 visitors in its fourth Cleveland appearance since 2003. Expect to see a new crew of robotic prehistoric beasts at the Zoo in 2010, as well as other popular attractions and a "stinky" new exhibit called The Scoop on Poop.
Cleveland Metroparks Zoo is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. Discounted winter admission through March 31 is just $7 per person, $5 for kids ages 2 to 11 and free for children under 2 and Zoo members. Parking is free. Located at 3900 Wildlife Way, the Zoo is easily accessible from Interstates 71, 77, 90 and 480.
